As I reached KL, I bbm-ed a friend and told her I'm back...
"Where are you now?"
"I'm back home"
Then 3 days later I flew off to Kelantan, as we always stay here every summer holidays. Again she asked,
"Are you still in KL? We can go out for iftar."
"Nope, sorry, I'm back home in Kelantan already"
Then she got confused.
"For all my life I've known you, you always say you're at home at different places.
Back in high school, when you go back to Brunei during school break, you'll say - I'll be spending time at home during school break.
When it comes to Raya time, you will again say that you'll celebrate it at home - but then it happens to be in Kelantan.
Then while you were studying in Russia, you'll be confusing me by saying "I'm going back home during this winter hols" - you end up being in Saudi Arabia.
So, I didn't bother to ask during summer hols, assuming you'll go back to KSA again, but you'll come and text me the "I'm home, let's meet up" thing and I find you being back here in Malaysia.
Even when you're back in Malaysia I'm still confused when you say you're at home because again it will be two different places - KL and Kota Bharu"
She ended it with a loooooooong sigh.
Then I laughed and realized that, yes, I have been confusing my friends with my location status due to my nomadic life.
To be honest, I dont have a place called "home" like the rest.
I dont have a concrete place to tell my friends "Hey, when you come over to this this city, you can drop by" or "Come, let's have an overnite at my place", simply because I DONT have my own place to call for myself.
My life has always been like this. We always menumpang, as in all the places we live in is temporarily.
Kelantan is where my grandparents live and it is always a must to spend summer holidays here when I'm back from Russia and my parents from Saudi.
Brunei is where my dad worked (and the rest of family stayed there too, except me) till they moved to Saudi after I graduated high school.
KSA @ Saudi is where my dad is currently working at( mom & baby bro lives there too) and because my winter hols and dad's winter hols doesn't fall on the same time, I always had to go back to KSA and spent the time there during winter.
KL, is so many people's home. Ahha. Mainly my elder sister. She currently works here. Of course she doesnt have anything called summer holidays, so we, the ones who were on summer break will always go and visit her over here. In that case, we stay at her place and I call it home.
It just occured to me that whenever I refer to "home", it doesnt literally mean home.
It means - I'm reunited with my family.
To a person like me, home is not the place, it's the people. So whenever I'm with my family, I'll say I'm at home. Let it be even at the moon or Mars,or Pluto.
Truth is, I don't have a house (homeless), but I do have a home and it is ALWAYS with me (Home sweet Home)
