Dandiya Night

Posted by Aysha Razali at 12:50 AM
I got an invitation from my Indian friends to attend this Dandiya Night event. At first, I thought it was some random invitation on FB coz I have never heard of such. Me, being the curious cat, went to google for "dandiya" to find out more about it.

Actually Dandiya is a traditional Indian folk dance that is usually performed using Dandiya sticks (two cylinder symmetrical sticks which are decorated nicely).

It is performed in two circles and usually where each dancer holds a pair of sticks and starts dancing to the beat. Generally, in a four beat rhythm, opposite sides hit the sticks at the same time, creating a nice sound.

Dancing in one circle first

Dancing in two circles, which goes opposite sides

One circle goes clockwise and another counter clockwise. In the mean time, the ones who are holding the sticks can simply twist and turn the stick in between their fingers while dancing.

The men in their Kurta(white) & Sherwani (orange)

I enjoyed watching it as it was a totally new experience for me, something unique - I found. Plus the food served that night was finger lickin' good!

Sujee Halwa

Puri and potatoes

I'm a culture lover and I have to admit that Indian culture is nice to explore as they have 1001 diversities.

Kudos to the organizers & everyone who were behind it.
The night was indeed a spectacular event!
