Small Things Matter The Most

Posted by Aysha Razali at 11:09 PM

I'm a Choc Junkie. I can literally gobble all the chocolates in the world if I have the luxury & time to find all of them. One of my favorite addiction is M&M's, they're my daily supplements :)

Once when I came home for winter hols back in 2009, me & family went to top up our groceries. At the cashier Dad grabbed a packet of Peanut M&M's for me. I opened it there & then itself and guess what - I was so elated like I hit the lottery when I saw blue M&M's inside mixed among other familiar colors.

Why is blue such a big deal?? Yes, I just realized that all this while in Russia, the peanut M&M's doesn't have the blue ones inside. Orange, red, yellow, green, brown, you name it, they have it all EXCEPT blue. For what the reasons are behind it, I'm not sure myself. Maybe they have something against blue (?) I feel sorry for all you blue color lovers!

Of course Dad was the 1st one to ask, why I'm so elated and I told him why. Hearing that, he bought 3 family pack of M&M peanuts for me to bring back to Kursk (small thing no#1)
Read: it was only my 1st day of holidays, I still have a month left.

3 weeks later, it was GCC football league season and Dad will always stay up late to watch all the matches. Towards the end he was out of munchies I guess so he asked me if it is ok to open the M&M's he bought for me earlier. "Like hello Dad, chocolate might be my daily supplements but you're like my oxygen tank. Of course I wouldn't choose some stupid M&M's over you"

Took it our from my luggage, handed to him & I went to bed.

The very next morning, as I went downstairs for breakfast, Mom told me Dad left those M&M's for me on the table. All I can see were packets of M&M's that are already open, most probably empty. So I went all sarcastic, saying "Yeah, Dad is very funny. Do I look like a cleaner lady??"
So I grabbed the dustbin and was ready to push 'em all inside it. Much to my surprise, all of them are actually still filled with some M&M's.....
.......ALL THE BLUE ONES. (small thing No#2)

It is a small thing, and an easy thing to do, but because of THAT small & easy thing, it made my day! Not because I can eat blue M&M's but because I know that whatever it is that makes me happy, Dad always takes note of it, even if it is not really that important to me, but it is to him, he'll remember and will always keep trying to make me happy.

Now, whenever I see those blue M&M's I wont be excited like I won the lottery anymore, but I'll smile because it is one of the small things that really matters!
